North Tawnton Clock Tower and Surround Cleaning

Project Details

Located at the centre of the village of North Tawnton, the clock tower is a Grade II listed structure built to commemorate the 1887 Jubilee of Queen Victoria. Over time grime, bird droppings and algae had built up on the surface.   

We secured the contract to clean the structure and the surrounding areas.  

Solution

Cleaning an historic structure requires utmost care not to damage the surface in any way and gently remove dirt and grime that can accellerate the deterioration of the surface. 

Located in the heart of the town, preparation was key for this project to ensure minimum disruption and protect parked vehicles, pedestrians and traffic. During working hours, the team erected safety barriers around the working areas to protect surroundings. An independent water supply was also provided. 

Constructed of stone and brick, our teams used super-heated steam to gently remove topical staining and surface contaminants. This method of high temperature and low pressure is both effective and gentle to the surface. 

Any stubborn stains were spot treated by hand by the team.
